FAQ
The questions every telco asks.
A short list of the questions we get most often. If yours is not here, get in touch — we will answer plainly.
About the platform
What is telco billing software, exactly?
Telco billing software is the back-office platform that turns network usage into customer invoices and revenue. It rates raw call records and data sessions, applies tariffs and discounts, manages customer accounts and self-service, integrates with carriers and payment gateways, and produces the bills your subscribers actually see. Selcomm covers the full BSS/OSS scope — billing, CRM, provisioning, network integration, and self-care — in one platform.
Who uses Selcomm?
Australian Communication Service Providers of every type and size — Carriers, Wholesalers, Aggregators, MVNOs, MVNEs, ISPs, Satellite operators, IoT specialists, and convergent multi-service providers. The platform supports business models from pre-paid mobile through to enterprise contract billing.
How long has Selcomm been operating?
Select Software Solutions, the company behind Selcomm, was founded in 1994 in Sydney. We have been continuously developing and supporting the platform for more than 30 years, with a regular release cadence and a customer base of Australian and international telcos.
Capabilities
How many integrations are there out of the box?
Over 300. Selcomm integrates with every major Australian wholesale carrier, all leading banks and payment gateways (BPAY, Ezidebit, CardGate, Australia Post), satellite providers (Inmarsat, Iridium, Globalstar), and core operational systems. New integrations are added on a regular cadence as customer needs evolve.
What service types does Selcomm support?
Mobile (2G–5G, LTE), fixed-line voice, broadband (DSL, cable, fibre, ethernet), Wi-Fi and wireless mesh, satellite voice and data, IPTV and Pay-TV, VoIP and IP-based services, IoT and machine-to-machine, and any combination as a converged bundle. The platform is service-agnostic — if it can be measured or subscribed to, Selcomm can rate, tariff, and bill it.
Deployment
Can I deploy Selcomm in the cloud, on-premise, or both?
All three. Selcomm runs as a managed cloud service, on your own infrastructure, or in a hybrid configuration that matches your data residency, security, and integration requirements. The platform is designed for deployment flexibility — your operating model should not be dictated by your billing vendor.
Commercial
Do I own my data and customers, or am I locked into a wholesale relationship?
You own your platform, your data, and your customer relationships. Selcomm is licensed software — not a managed service that sits between you and your subscribers. You can switch wholesale carriers, run multiple host networks, or change deployment models without rebuilding billing or losing access to historical data.
How does pricing work?
Selcomm is priced per module, with options for full enterprise licensing or fully outsourced cloud delivery. Pricing reflects platform breadth (which modules), deployment model (cloud, on-prem, hybrid), and scale (subscriber and transaction volume). We provide a tailored quote after a 30-minute discovery call. Get in touch and we will walk through your requirements.
Implementation
How quickly can I go live?
Implementation timelines depend on the complexity of your existing systems, the integrations required, and your data migration scope. A focused MVNO launch on cloud infrastructure can go live in 8–12 weeks. A full carrier-grade implementation with on-premise deployment and dozens of integrations is typically a 4–9 month project. We scope this honestly during discovery.
